Las Vegas to get its own Nurburgring?

Las Vegas already has replicas of the Eiffel Tower, the Great Sphinx of Giza, New York, and Venice. If that weren't enough, its latest endeavor is bound to turn heads.

Bruton Smith, the CEO of Speedway Motorsports, is looking to recreate Germany's Nürburgring in the city as well, according to Car and Driver.

Smith gave an interview with SiriusXM Sports last week in which he said he had been asked to replicate the famed track, somewhere near Las Vegas. He said talks with the state's governor about the project have been ongoing since it was proposed three years ago.

While an official location has not been selected the track would be independent of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and would be no farther than 10 miles away from the existing track. According to Smith, the Nevada Bureau of Land Management offered 8,000 acres to build the racetrack -- though how he plans to duplicate the Nürburgring's specific elevation changes in the middle of the Nevada desert remains to be seen.

Once completed, the track would be used for manufacturer testing, not as a racetrack. Individual drivers would also be able to use it - possibly opening Las Vegas up to a new market of driving enthusiasts.
