A team of eco-friendly firms recently gave the public a sneak peak at what they claim will be the world’s most powerful electric car when it’s officially unveiled later this month.
While the current crop of electric super-cars like the Tesla Roadster are no slouches themselves, the Quimera AEGT01 race car flexes the kind of muscle that puts it on par with the Lamborghinis and McLarens of the world. It features three electric motors that altogether pack 700 horsepower and over 1000 lb ft. of torque, which means it’ll get you from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 seconds. It also boasts a top speed of 180-mph.

The remaining specs on this, shall we say, “electrifying” beast are also impressive. Beneath the super-lightweight carbon fiber monocoque chassis is a nifty multi-speed transmission and lithium-polymer EIG batteries with enough juice for 20 minutes of full throttle racing.
Altran, a collaborating partner, says that the vehicle is undergoing further development and could someday be available for the consumer market.
In the meantime, the teaser video provides a glimpse of an early prototype so viewers can get at least a taste of what to expect during the car’s debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which begins on September 12th.
