Turkish hydrogen vehicle Sahimo promises mega MPG

By | July 9, 2009, 8:13 AM PDT

Turkish students at Sakarya University have built a hydrogen car that promises to get the MPG equivalent of 1,336 miles.

The Sahimo, according to the web site Inhabitant.com, can be driven 353 miles on a liter of hydrogen. The students hope to torture test it across 1,864 miles of the the Australian outback from Darwin to Adelaide in the 2009 Global Green Challenge. There’s plenty of places to read about the Sahimo, but its source web site is in Turkisk and the English translation button does not seem to be working at the moment. However, the site carries a stirring rendition of the 1812 Overture which bespeaks the grand plans of the students.

The carbon fiber vehicle weighs only 110 kilos and is quite small. The photo album in Flash has many photos accompanied by some thumping techno “muzik.” a_a çok teşekkürler (”good luck” in Turkish or so Google tells me..).
