My wife says my traffic intolerance will eventually give me a stroke and she's probably right. But here's a video that shows how drivers can in realtime report congestion using GPS on cell phones (traffic reports on radio tend to be notoriously inaccurate and based on old info...traffic copters can't be everywhere at once). The name of the project is Mobile Millennium and you can participate in it. I dont know about this but it would seem that having people glued to their cell phones while driving is NOT what we wnat to encourge since they are more likely to CAUSE the traffic problem! BMW currently has in its nav system a "TI" Traffic Information system. It can even distinguish between accidents and construction by icons and recommends detours before you hit the problem. Time and length of expected delay is also shown. Not sure how they do it, but in the 3 years I have been using it, it has been extremely accurate and up to date time wise.
