A London-based cab company announced Tuesday that it will offer free WiFi in its 300 vehicle fleet. Following a similar move by London underground stations, this will make it even easier for fans to stay up to date with events as they travel to and from the Olympics.

The firm, greentomatocars, has established itself as a leader in taxi technology by using environmentally-friendly hybrid vehicles. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to digital innovation and makes London the first capital in Europe to have a fleet of WiFi enabled cabs. By entering the appropriately-named password “ilovefreewifi”, passengers can connect to the 3G Wireless Logic service. Each car has a SIM card and allows for download speeds of 7.2Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2Mbps.

Greentomatocars founder Jonny Goldstone commented on the increased level of connectivity in the city, saying, London has long been recognised as a hub for technological innovation. In 2008 it was named the Wi-Fi capital of the world and in 2012 I think it would be fair to say it’s now the free Wi-Fi capital.” The service will be rolled out on Thursday, just weeks before the Games start.

For the kind of London, uk cab audience who like to keep in touch and are probably quite upward cellular, well linked people, tech-savvy, this is a service that they really want. Wi-Fi connectivity is popular with passengers as it is very patchy across London at the moment and the majority of people will be using their own data package that comes with their phone. - custom essays
