U.S. Air Force investigates using laser light to heal war injuries

By | May 10, 2010, 12:39 PM PDT

The U.S. Air Force may soon use light to treat battlefield wounds.

The process is called “photochemical tissue bonding,” and it can replace the stitches, staples and glues normally used to repair skin wounds. It can reconnect nerves, tendons, blood vessels and even corneal incisions.

Led by Harvard Medical School professors Irene Kochevar and Robert Redmond, researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital recently completed a pilot clinical study of the technology, which was first announced in 2009, to determine how effective laser sutures were compared to traditional stitches.

“We have demonstrated that this technology is very helpful in medicine for the Air Force because it produces better healing and functional outcomes than the same wounds that were treated with conventional materials,” Kochevar said in a statement.

Here’s how it works: First, a pink dye called Rose Bengal is applied to the wound or damaged tissue. Then the wound is exposed briefly to green light, which is absorbed by the dye.

That absorption, which excites electrons and causes crosslinking, allows it to bond proteins on the tissue surface at a molecular level, reconnecting collagen without heating the skin.

The benefits are many:

  • The process uses no proteins or glues that could cause additional inflammation.
  • The nanostitches are immediate.
  • The nanosutures are water-tight.
  • Because of the seal, there is better scar formation.
  • There’s no reason to return to the doctor for removal of stitches because there are none.

The researchers are currently investigating how to shorten the treatment time and strengthen the bond in anticipation for use in the field.

In his book Autobiography of a Yogi, Parmahansa Yogananda talks about how light will be used to heal people in the future.

Is this a method that will be used in hospitals?
Both now or in the near future?

RE: U.S. Air Force investigates using laser light to heal war injuries
This process is absolutely amazing! It demonstrates the finetuned synchronization, synergy and symbiosis prevailing between Nature and the Human body. There is a thermodynamic energy transformation Algorithm pegged to the speed of Light's fixed value which our Creator has infused into Nature so that "Biological Thermodynamics" can safely interface with valid compatible physical laws in a way that is beneficial to Human Beings. "Energy is never created nor destroyed but always transformed." God created us and the environment for us to live in. Both energy thermodynamics and "Biological Thermodynamics" have an intrinsic affinity for "electro-physio-conversion" for appropriate applications. They display sensitive dependence upon initial Creation conditions of Energy Conservation, which proves that there have never been any so-called "evolutional processes" that would have disrupted Continuum and dynamic equilibrium between cycling mass frames, natural processes, and universal structures. Evolutionism contradicts Continuum and energy Conservation. It is a dead-ended fictitious theory of origin having no confirmable scientific proof. God bless you and God bless America.

Use in Hospitals
Three benefits will drive this.
Less inflamation - quicker healing
Water tight seal - less risk of infection, lower insurance risk
No need to remove stiches - one less doctor visit.

All of these point to less expense. Oh yeah, it will show up in hospitals as soon as the FDA approves it, and the insurance companies will be on the FDA like ugly on an ape to approve it.

Cool stuff... reminds me of the movie "Logan's Run" made in the
70's with Farrah Fawcett... see the youtube video v=a5hBrXhqXFg

@lion of paradise, when you speak cryptically like you do, please do
not expect anyone to understand you. Also provide examples and
be willing to prove your words. Without that, you will find it difficult to
convince anyone of your message. And that is what you want, right?

RE: U.S. Air Force investigates using laser light to heal war injuries
Sorry Leo,
Evolution is more that proven, and God has nothing to do with ?Science and Technological? advances, which have moved mind kind forward. Hmm, seems irrational and very convenient that people disregard the same ?Science/ Technology? that developed this type of technological advancements, yet trashes how science have more than proven Evolution and the fact that Earth is many many millions of years old as is the Universe.
Please note that in the ?real? scientific community the ?Theory of Evolution? is not based on ?Faith? like God, but science, thus not a debate, but the TRUTH.

Nothing cryptic here. He is saying that this in perfect order with all of Gods creation. The theory of evolution on the other breaks several laws of Thermodynamics and can't possibly work no matter how many mulligans you give it.

Another demonstration of the use of circular logic by the religious.
Back to the subject at hand - can this tech replace stitches altogether? Or only on wounds up to a certain size?

Leon, could you please save your religious gobbledegook for Palin's Facebook
wall? She loooooves that stuff. TIA.

Thank you for your support and understanding. Your logic is impeccable in retranslating my statement. From Newton (gravity), through Maxwell and Faraday (electromagnetism) through Einstein (Relativity), scientists have impacted the world with their great creativity because they always believed in God having given purpose and destiny to Man and the universe. And that's why Einstein is the last great scientist.Today, astro-evolutionists waste their time trying to prove the co-called "big bang theory," of universal beginning. They have produced no unification theories capable of rivaling Einstein's discoveries. Their conjectures cannot be substantiated via useful equations. Einstein was not a godless evolutionist. He said "God does not play dice with the universe." He believed the universe displays too much organization and too much order to have come around by random chance and accident. And we agree. Thus, healing human wounds through laser light technology affirms God's first spoken Word, "Let there be light, and there was light; and God saw that the light was good."

How do know or not know that evolution is or isn't God's work. Or for that matter all the things science finds are part of "God's plan".

RE: U.S. Air Force investigates using laser light to heal war injuries
I think that God is so cool to invent the very things, like cosmology and evolution, that make explanations in terms of religion redundant. Now that, you've got to admit, suggests someone who is confident in Himself and content with what He is. No need to strut and show off. Clever too. I mean, why be dumb enough to run the universe when it can be left to run itself. Way to go God. You've got my vote.

Ummm what? How do they contradict it? Here let me say this:

"Religion contradicts continuum and energy conservation. It is a
dead-ended fictitious theory of origion having no confirmable
scientific proof"

Wow, that seems just as legitimate as what you are saying and I
substituted one word. Please, before you make any retarded
religious horsesh$t that shows your utter lack of biology please
back that up with anything short of the crap glen beck has told
you to say on fox news. Seriously, GO TO COLLEGE. TAKE A
BIOLOGY CLASS. Just one! It would do your pea brain so much
good! Evolution is not in dispute. If you don't like my word for it,
try 99% of the scientific community (the 1% being evangelical
christian "scientists").

RE: U.S. Air Force investigates using laser light to heal war injuries
very cool discovery.

on the side topic....
themodynamics - the earth isn't a closed system (energy entering from sun etc) so order can reasonably increase here.
Einstein did not believe in a personal God. He believed the universe was God more or less. He was also rather poor in the way he treated people and all of his most famous discoveries were made with arguably more intelligent wifes help. Though no doubt he was also extremely smart.
