"The Morning Briefing" is SmartPlanet's daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we're reading about broadband deployment and services.

.) Why U.S. broadband is stuck in the slow lane. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) raised tough questions this week about the state of American broadband in its eighth annual "Broadband Progress Report."

.) Broadband: taking the right road to a high-speed Britain. Investing in better internet links is all very well, but we should also be looking at where this hi-tech society will take us.

.) Comment: A little knowledge makes for bad broadband debate. One of the most frustrating aspects to the debate about future directions for Australia’s broadband infrastructure is the complete obsession with headline download and upload speeds that many people will never use at economic price points, to the detriment of any discussion about other key aspects of the Internet experience.

.) New Zealand's broadband muddle. New Zealand's broadband network has been held up as an example for Australia. But is it as good as some might think?

.) U.K. aims for the fastest broadband in Europe by 2015. Britain's culture secretary has repeated his ambition of Britain having the fastest broadband on the continent within three years.
