The Morning Briefing: Successes and failures

By | June 28, 2012, 5:36 AM PDT

“The Morning Briefing” is SmartPlanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about successes and failures for some of the world’s biggest brands.

Charlie has the day off.

1.) Encouraged by the state of the American auto industry, Italy’s Fiat plans to relaunch Alfa Romeo on the shoulders of Chrysler.

2.) Innovation comes in all sizes. In an unstable environment, Africa’s most successful entrepreneurs are jacks-of-all-trades.

3.) The capacity to harness emerging technologies for the benefit of a population? The transition from smart city to info-state.

4.) Skeuomorphism: are the derivative designs for Apple’s digital interfaces tiresome or tactile?

5.) TED’s “The City 2.0″ venture is a resounding failure. Too much ambition, or not enough?

Alfa? Yes, please, anything
AR will surely build cars better looking to American eyes than the Fiat 500. Hard to imagine it could do worse.
