The Morning Briefing: Social media in business

By | June 12, 2012, 1:05 AM PDT

The Morning Briefing” is Smartplanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about the applications of social media in modern businesses.

1.) Making social media work for you and your business. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and more. They can all help small businesses connect with your customers and find expert advice.

2.) To get reluctant employees on board with social media, put ‘em through boot camp. We all know that successful social media adoption within any organization isn’t an easy process. Even though social media has been around for a while, there is still a huge perception and knowledge gap within global companies around effectiveness of social channels and approaches.

3.) Intertainment Media & Ortsbo develop social media financial services program for celebrities and fans. Intertainment Media Inc. has announced that it has developed a customized social media financial services program for celebrities and socially active specialty brands — code named “sweet card”.

4.) Casegoods Makers: How to cold call via social media. How many of you in the casegoods and cabinetry world have blocked social media sites at your office?

5.) Social media a business tool for women owners. A survey of women business owners finds that they have dealt with the recession and its aftermath by using traditional strategies like cost-cutting — and newer ones such as social media.
