The Morning Briefing: Petition at AA, Delta offers Wifi, Kingfisher license protected

By | February 23, 2012, 2:49 AM PST

“The Morning Briefing” is SmartPlanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about news in aviation services.

1.) Petition seeks new leaders at American Airlines. A petition handled and managed by a flight attendant who is known for mocking the airline through YouTube videos seeks to restructure management and make it “an airline people love to fly once again.” The petition is planned to go before a judge.

2.) Google optimizes Flight Search for Android, iOS. Flight Search is one of the services a user can access from their mobile device, provided by Google. It used to be a desktop-exclusive search, but it is now available for both Android and iOS — which is a far more convenient way to check flight timetables or book tickets on the go.

3.) Delta now offers Wifi service on all shuttle flights. Delta Air Lines is now offering in-flight Wifi services on all shuttle flights between LaGuardia and Chicago O’Hare. It is expected that this year over 800 aircraft will have this facility available.

4.) Aviation minister rules out currently cancelling Kingfisher’s licence. Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh on Thursday ruled out cancelling the licence of Kingfisher Airlines even as the carrier continued to restrict daily flights due to cash flow issues, pilots jumping ship and operational problems.

“We don’t want Kingfisher to shut down. We do not have any plans to cancel Kingfisher’s licence. An airline can operate until it has at least five planes in its fleet.” said Singh.

5.) Fantasy camp for aviation fans. Aviation fans pay up to $1,699 for a seat in the ‘mecca of aviation’ event and access to spots normally off limits — such as a Boeing’s 737 factory, American Airline’s mission control-like operations center and the cockpit of the world’s largest passenger jet. This year, tickets sold out in 17 minutes.
