"The Morning Briefing" is SmartPlanet's daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we're reading updates in space travel and research.

.) Europe's ATV space freighter launches. Europe's ATV space truck has blasted off from the Kourou base in French Guiana, heading to the International Space Station (ISS) with supplies of food, water, air, and fuel. It is also carrying experiments and spare materials and tools for the astronaut outpost.

.) NASA considers space station for Mars 'dry run'. The International Space Station may provide the right setting for a 500-day dummy run to Mars in another few years. Physical as well as psychological questions will have to be addressed before anything of that sort is attempted, but steps are occurring for such a trip.

.) Weather once again delays NASA five rocket mission, Virginia. NASA has rescheduled the launch of five suborbital sounding rockets from the Wallops Facility in Virginia once more. The launch is part of a study to research upper level jet streams.

.) Ex-gov't scientist gets 13 years in espionage case. A former government space scientist has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after admitting he tried to sell space and defense secrets to Israel in what turned out to be an FBI sting operation.

.) NASA teams up with Angry Birds to teach people about space. How has the physics of space been incorporated into the latest Angry Birds adventure?
