By | June 7, 2012, 1:00 AM PDT

“The Morning Briefing” is SmartPlanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about mobile payment systems and implementation.

1.) Facebook rolls out new “low friction” mobile payments for developers in 60+ countries. Following an announcement at the Mobile World Congress this year, Facebook is now officially rolling out a new, 2-step mobile payment flow that developers can include in their Facebook apps via Facebook’s Payments API.

2.) PassportParking releases mobile payment tools for providers, commuters. More companies are beginning to see the convenience of mobile payments as a way to pay for parking. Charlotte, N.C.-based PassportParking announced it has launched its new cloud-based mobile payment system for parking.

3.) Mobile Payments: The next generation. A description of an experience using PayPal’s payment offering for brick-and-mortar retailers.

4.) Mobile wallet systems could hurt brick-and-mortar banks, survey suggests. U.S. financial institutions face a serious competitive threat from the rise of mobile wallet payments apps, according to a consumer study released Monday by Carlisle and Gallagher.

5.) Mobile Payments: Take these broken wings and learn to fly! Other than the fact that we’re soon going to start dropping like flies from cancer of the ear, mobile devices do promise a revolution even greater than the internet. In fact, mobile is becoming the internet.
