The Morning Briefing: LED advances

By | August 29, 2012, 12:35 AM PDT

“The Morning Briefing” is SmartPlanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about LED technology.

1.) LEDs deliver better light, study says, but consumers buy CFLs. Of the 90 percent of Americans who have used LED or CFL light bulbs to save energy and cut costs, most use CFLs, according to a Consumer Reports study released Thursday.

2.) Shining a light on the LED opportunity. Smart investors know that, often, the biggest growth opportunities are the ones you can’t invest in — yet. New technologies typically have the most potential for growth when they are still under development or in the early phases of market penetration

3.) Touchless control sensor modules add multifunctional capabilities to LED lighting. Touchless sensor modules now available from Rapid Electronics, add multifunctional capabilities to LED lighting, allowing users to switch and dim lighting in response to hand gestures and proximity, without the need for physical contact.

4.) LED lighting: Challenges and opportunities. Driven by the need to cut energy costs, LED technology has been one of the fastest developing and growing areas in recent years.

5.) Top 6 benefits of using LED lighting.

It all depends...
Changing from cfl:s or incandecent bulbs to LEDs don't save anything in temperate to cold climate countries, because we need and use the heat produced by them anyway. There's also no point in replacing an existing bulb with anything else until the existing lamp fails, because cfl:s in particular were expensive to buy in the first place.
