The Morning Briefing: Electric vehicles

By | May 23, 2012, 1:54 AM PDT

“The Morning Briefing” is SmartPlanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about electric vehicles (EVs).

1.) Tesla to start deliveries of Model S electric cars next month. Tesla Motors Inc. said it will begin delivering its first mass production electric car -– the high-end Model S to customers starting June 22, about a month ahead of the expected schedule.

2.) BMW aims to lead electric car market. Drivers who watched last year’s Hollywood blockbuster “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” probably dreamt of owning a BMW i8, with its sleek, futuristic appearance. Alternatively, an increasing number of people concerned about their budget want electric cars as gas prices continue to rise.

3.) LA’s electric-car drivers go further, charge smarter. Los Angeles is well known for being at the forefront of electric car adoption, spurred on in part by large numbers of Hollywood A-list electric car drivers, enthusiastic advocacy groups and chronic air quality.

4.) Hybrid and electric vehicles to rev European electric motors market, says Frost & Sullivan. Electrification in vehicles is a key trend in the automotive industry — the increase in electric components within vehicles now boosting the market for traction motors.

5.) New hybrid electric sports car turning heads. With solar panels on the roof and an electronic hum as the flashy car accelerates, the Fisker Karma is the newest electric vehicle turning heads on metro Tulsa streets and highways.

Love the headline...
..."New hybrid electric sports car turning heads", although most of those heads belong to the NHTSA and fire officials. Not long after the embarrassment of Consumer Reports having their Fisker Karma arrive DOA at their testing facility, one spontaneously explodes, taking the owners 2 other cars and half his house with it. Fisker responded by sending an army of investigators who then suggested that the fire might have been of a "nefarious origin".

No doubt Al Gore and Leo DiCaprio are now parking their Karmas outside.

Tesla is the car.
That is the fastest car I have ever driven - 0 to 60 in 3.7sec.

That is the longest range all electric - over 230 miles per charge.

This car will take me to work (80 miles one way), no hassling-recharge required,
and return home for recharge on the cheap 8:00pm to 6:00am period.

Why would I get a GM electric or a BMW as mentioned above that gets 70 miles
per charge.

C-X75
WOW in C-X75 there will be four 145 kW electric motors in vehicle to produce 778 horsepower, the idea of Jaguar is superb and seems robust.
