"The Morning Briefing" is SmartPlanet's daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we're reading about biofuels.

.) United, Boeing and UOP join big push for biofuels. The three industry heavyweights have joined with the Chicago Department of Aviation and the Clean Energy Trust to form the Midwest Aviation Sustainable Biofuels Initiative.

.) Sundrop Fuels to build commercial biofuels plant in the United States. Biofuel company Sundrop Fuels is partnering with technology and engineering supplier, ThyssenKrupp Uhde Corp to build the first green gasoline plant in Louisiana, U.S.

.) API blasts EPA rejection of petitions to waive biofuel requirements. The American Petroleum Institute strongly criticized the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 3 days after it rejected petitions from API, two other oil and gas industry associations, and a refiner to waive requirements for cellulosic biofuels that the petitions said do not exist.

.) Driving season begins, as does griping about gas.

.) Biofuel steam locomotive tomorrow’s cleaner mass transit? Can an old, restored steam locomotive be the harbinger for a new era in cleaner train travel?
