Siemens and CA Technologies on Thursday announced a partnership to provide carbon and sustainability management tools to businesses.

The deal combines CA's ecoSoftware suite and Siemens' industrial connections to help companies measure, assess and report environmental impact and performance, especially as it pertains to compliance with legislation.

The alliance also shows that a corporation's carbon footprint continues to matter at the highest levels of the management chain. Organizations want accurate carbon and sustainability performance data at their fingerprints so they can address and measure progress for sustainability strategies, which ultimately results in long-term cost savings.

"It is a giant leap forward from the spreadsheets that some organizations are still using to manually calculate emissions and liabilities," said Sonny Masero, CA's vice president of Sustainability EMEA, in a statement. "The collaboration will also enable us to reach out further into sectors such as energy, healthcare, public sector, technology and financial services."

The companies also published a whitepaper on the subject, which you can download here.

The partnership was announced today at Green IT Expo in London.
