Self-heating baby bottle can warm milk without using electricity

By | January 4, 2010, 1:41 PM PST

Industrial designer Karim Rashid has designed a self-heating baby bottle that can warm milk to body temperature without using electricity.

Named Iiamo Go, the bottle heats the milk using a disposable capsule that causes a chemical reaction to heat the bottle.

The disposable cartridge contains water and salt (CaCl2); heat is generated as the salt becomes rehydrated. Just pour the milk into the bottle and insert the cartridge into its bottom. In a few minutes, the milk will be warmed.

Made in Denmark, the product is billed as a portable, non-electrical, organic way to feed a baby. It’s a novel idea, but whether it’s worth almost $50 (and $12 cartridges) depends more on how much you like Rashid’s work than how efficient the product is at feeding your baby.

Here’s a video:

RE: Self-heating baby bottle can warm milk without using electricity
I prefer my milk straight from the mother..
It would be a lot cheaper to run if fitted with the plastic bag type of cartridge that is used in hand warmers which is recharged by immersing in hot water, then a small click device shocks the solid compound and gives off heat. this is reusable & costs about $10 a one off cost. This device seems like ink jet printers cost a lot to run as you have to buy ink from manufacture! no good for poor mothers, but ok for emergency use, then sold on ebay when baby gets older..

Great idea... price point is definite obstacle... general market entry point for mass consumption around $20US.

"ronangel" may be on to something with reusable "shock" sleeve.

Definitely think that ronangel is on to something, My wife and I had the same idea when trying to warm feed for my son who was six weeks premature. Six years and many prototypes later we launched the yoomi self-warming bottle in the uk www.yoomi.com. It uses ronangel's suggestion with a few tweaks.
