Reebok claims ZigTech sneakers conserve, return energy as you run

Reebok claims its new ZigTech running shoes are "energy drinks for your feet," designed to conserve and return energy as you run.

The company calls the shoe its "most technically advanced" model to date, with a lightweight foam in a zig-zag shape that absorbs the impact of a heel strike and "sends a wave of energy along the length of the shoe to help propel the athlete forward with each step."

Does the ZigTech actually send that energy forward? We'll see once it hits store shelves.

Reebok says their shoe tech results in 20 percent less wear and tear on key leg muscles, especially the shins and hamstrings. But some runners suggest that you'll have far less wear and tear if you just leave your cushy running shoes at home completely.

Nevertheless, Reebok has signed NFL players Peyton Manning, Chad Ochocinco, Santonio Holmes and Eli Manning alongside MLB pitchers Andy Pettitte and Tim Lincecum, NHL pros Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin and soccer stars Thierry Henry and Ryan Giggs to flog their footwear.

Reebok ZigTech arrives on March 11 for $100.
