By | March 23, 2010, 5:04 AM PDT

Qualcomm said Tuesday that it has opened an augmented reality lab in Austria. The aim: Create augmented reality for mobile devices.

The research and development effort comes as Qualcomm, a wireless technology provider, integrates the intellectual property from Imagination Computer Services. Qualcomm recently acquired the company.

Imagination was founded in 1998 by leading researchers from the Vienna University of Technology.

Augmented reality is designed to allow people to visualize data integrated with the physical world. Dr. Paul Jacobs, CEO of Qualcomm, said this augmented reality approach can turn your mobile device into “the remote control of your life.”
