The airline Virgin America has emblazoned one of its fleet with late co-owner of Apple Steve Jobs’ famous slogan.
The plane, which first flew late last year, is an Airbus A320 model that has ‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’ stenciled on its nose. The quote was made famous after Jobs used it in his 2005 commencement address to Stanford University graduates, although it originally stems from The Whole Earth Catalog in the 1970s:
“Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.”
Virgin America spokesperson Abby Lunardini told CNET: ”The aircraft name was actually submitted as a tribute to Mr. Jobs by one of our employees in an internal plane naming competition.”
Virgin America is the Silicon Valley-based airline that is owned by British entrepreneur Richard Branson. The tycoon is known for thinking outside of the box — when Virgin struck up a deal with Google to put wifi inside its planes, the airline commissioned skywriting planes to spell out ‘Virgin Loves Google‘ in the sky over the Bay Area.
Although, perhaps having ’stay foolish’ on the side of a plane may make a few passengers a little nervous.
