Google Earth, meet Audi’s A8

By | December 17, 2009, 6:14 AM PST

Audi will integrate Google Earth into its A8, the first time the application has been used in an automobile.

In a blog post, Google notes:

With their newly unveiled Audi A8, Audi is the first car manufacturer to bring Google Earth directly into the vehicle and to combine that with a set of useful Google services. We’ve worked closely with them to create a compelling in-car experience integrated with the Audi navigation system. You’ll be able to enjoy 3D satellite imagery, terrain information and a wealth of additional geo information relevant to your current location: layers like Wikipedia to learn more about your surroundings or Panoramio images to get another view.

Google is also hooking up Maps and Local Search into the A8 and linking it to your desktop so you can send listings to your car.

The big question: When exactly am I supposed to pay attention to driving?

RE: Google Earth, meet Audi's A8
Car manufacturers are way behind technology, integrating a complete
computer system in the vehicles. It time to see computers included in
new cars as a standard feature. Its not hard a all to fit a netbook
sized motherboard moded into a cars dashboard. The only issue I could
think of is vibration on the road, that could be solved with replacing
a hdd with a flash drive. One day all of this will come true. happy
