Fisker preps for ‘Project Nina’ luxury sedan

By | June 24, 2011, 7:07 AM PDT

Following in the footsteps of rival Tesla Motors, Fisker Automotive announced on Wednesday that it seeks to hire 120 new employees for its Wilmington, Del. plant in anticipation of the production of its second model, code-named “Project Nina.”

The vehicle will be a plug-in hybrid mid-size premium sedan, much like Tesla’s all-electric Model S. To build it, Fisker will hire 40 electromechanical technicians in July and August and 80 new production employees between October 2011 and February 2012.

The Delaware News-Journal reports that prototypes will appear “early next year,” with full production expected in Q4 2012.

Jonathan Starkey reports:

Since last June, when the company purchased the plant for $20 million, 11.2 million pounds of iron, aluminum, steel and wood have been trucked out of the facility and sold at a $1.4 million profit, according to company officials.

Fisker Chief Operating Officer and co-founder Bernhard Koehler said today the company plans to ramp production over a three-year schedule. About 100,000 cars could roll out of the plant in 2014. Koehler said the company intends to share additional production details soon.

Like many U.S. states, Delaware has been hemorrhaging manufacturing jobs. Will Fisker help turn the tide?

I was impressed looking at their web site until,
I saw this disclaimer on the savings.

"Varies with driving habits. Average estimate of $1,500 per year over similarly-sized, V8-powered car."

Name me the number of cars that still have V8s. I'd like to see how does it compare to the 4 cylinder powered 2012 BMW 3 series?

Taxpayers have over a half-billion invested in this.
In fact, Uncle Sam has more invested in this company than its own owners do. So far, the only thing we have seen is their yet-to-be delivered near $100k luxo-sports cruiser slated for Al Gore and Leo DiCaprio. The big question is whether this car will actually make it to the sales floor, or end up as more green vaporware and another fine example of crony capitalism at its best/worst.

Tesla cars work good - help Tesla move ahead!
Tesla is a working car with good mileage and basically everything the
people need now.
The US bought into GM: EVO is the copy job? EVO is a waste
compared to the Tesla.
Toyota Japan bought into Tesla and now are in mass production in California.
What is the benefit of 120 people building another concept car ?

Your Right
Who wants to choose the car they want when we could all just have the same one?

why more choices?
I'm betting your either a democrat or a republican...and think any OTHER choices are a waste of time and anyone's vote. You are the problem in this country...and the problem with most manufacturing as well. THEY think more choice is just to damn confusing and should be eliminated. I think it's better to have 20 different things to pick from in every catagory...especiially politics
