Fisker Karma hybrid electric car coming in March

By | January 20, 2011, 11:58 AM PST

The plug-in hybrid electric Fisker Karma luxury sports car will now ship in the spring of 2011, according to a new report.

Production for the $100,000 car was originally scheduled for 2009, but has been delayed several times.

Brad Berman at PluginCars reports that regular production for the vehicle will begin in March, estimating that Fiskers won’t be seen on American roads until at least April and likely May.

The company aims to sell 15,000 Karmas in 2011.

The 260-horsepower vehicle will have a range of 300 miles, average more than 100 miles per gallon, and charge in six hours.

While most folks won’t ever see one of these things, much less own one, the Karma is one of several poster children for the EV movement. Despite its premium price tag, its success is, in many ways, tied to the success of electric vehicles in general.

(After all, if everything goes electric, so must our supercars, too.)

RE: Fisker Karma hybrid electric car coming in March
Still no excuse for a Supercar, especially if it is electric to cost over $100k! If it is going to be mass produced, there is no reason that this car could be sub-$50k for an initial run of 15,000 vehicles/year.

Someone is simply riding the "cash-wave" of the future using the excuse that "it costs money to develop". Jeeze, my first Oldsmobile didn't cost me $100K...

It's not a supercar...
...it's a luxury saloon (sedan).
It should be compared to the likes of Audi A8; 260bhp is nothing
special at that price point.
Still, it's a shame you didn't get a picture of it from the front; from
what I recall it's a real looker.
