Can we starve cancer by eating?

By | May 19, 2010, 7:11 AM PDT

Angiogenesis Foundation leader William Li says the first step to kill cancer is by eating.

In a new TED video, Li discusses anti-angiogenesis, which prevents the growth of blood vessels that feed a tumor.

The human body is packed with 60,000 miles worth of blood vessels and 19 billion capillaries, and according to Li, cancer turns these “vessels of life” into “vessels of death.”

“The body has the ability to regulate the number of blood vessels that are present at any given time,” Li says. “When angiogenesis is out of balance, a myriad of diseases result.”

More than 70 of them, in fact. Including cancer.

The first crucial step? Eating cancer-fighting foods that cut off cancer’s supply lines, Li says.
