America’s most stressed out cities

By | June 17, 2012, 10:18 AM PDT

New York City may be known as the city that never sleeps, but residents of Las Vegas, Miami, and Austin seem to be the ones in need of a little rest and relaxation.

In a recent analysis of America’s most stressed out and sleepless cities, researchers at the mattress company Beautyrest found that denizens of Sin City are the most in need of a “recharge.”

To compile the list, researchers from the company examined Twitter posts, Google searches and other social media behaviors to find locations across the country in which people complained about being tired, stressed or overworked. After tallying activity around 50 sleep and health keywords for one year, the company adjusted for city population.

Check out the top 30 cities in need of a break in the graphic below:

Surprisingly, New York doesn’t even crack the top 20, although the city does produce the highest volume of stress-related tweets. Data from the analysis also revealed that Los Angeles is home to the most people that “can’t sleep” while residents of university-filled Boston performed the most anxiety-related Google searches.

What do you think? Do you agree with your city’s spot on (or absence from) the list?
