Dissolving fruit stickers

By | March 6, 2012, 1:13 PM PST

Traditional fruit stickers seem destined to go the way of the mouse pad.

In 2009 researchers suggested labeling fruit with laser-etched tattoos. This February scientists announced the development of spoilage-detecting silk stickers. And now, designers are getting ready to debutĀ dissolvable fruit stickers that turn into soap.

The all-soapĀ Fruitwash Labels can be printed with produce names and barcodes, then rinsed off with water. They dissolve into a with the addition of water they help clean the fruit.

Their parent company Amron Experimental is currently seeking investors to help bring the new stickers to market.

disolable wash labels
LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea...how smart is this, as long as the "wash" is safe for accidental consumption? Even Children could and would wash their fruit, veggies or whatever before eating all sorts of pesticides and chemicals that would harm. Investment op? Sounds like a good one...

Dissolving fruit stickers
Simple idea but how genius! It helps to further educate about the dangers of pesticides

It's about time!
For years I've wondered how many toxic inks and other chemicals were in those ubiquitous and difficult-to-remove labels, not to mention the glues with which they attach. No doubt many have been partially or completely eaten by unwary consumers.
