Smart way to empower social change

Written by Vince Thompson, Contributing Editor

Ryan Scott is widely recognized as the father of opt-in email marketing. In 1995, at the age of 26, he co-founded NetCreations, Inc., the first 100% opt-in e-mail marketing company. With help from his business partner Rosalind Resnick, Ryan built NetCreations from a two-person Web design firm to a $58 million (sales) public company in 2001. NetCreations was acquired for $111 million shortly thereafter. Since then, he has turned his knowledge of business and technology into the full-time passion of helping non-profits – and their supporters – to raise money and awareness.

As the Founder and CEO of Causecast.org, Ryan is looking to use the web to create massive social change. With Causecast.org,  Ryan and his team have created a social media network that educates and entertains by using original content to inspire people to get involved with the issues they want to support.

In the interview I conducted below Ryan shares some secrets of his success and talks about the importance of giving back to the community, especially in difficult economic times.
