Infographic: your fuel cell powered city of the future

Cheap and abundant natural has has made the notion of hydrogen powered fuel cells powering businesses, home, hospitals, and other public infrastructure more plausible. The barrier to adoption has been that it takes a lot of natural gas to make hydrogen using current processes, but that has now been effectively eliminated. Fuel cells take hydrogen (or other fuels) and convert them into electricity through a chemical reaction. UTC Power, a large manufacturer of fuel cells, has published an infographic that suggests places where they would be useful in a community. At first blush it seems like a list of the customers that UTC would like, but today’s natural gas economics could make the fuel cell laden city in this illustration really exist.
