Here we go again? Let’s hope not.
According to the Associated Press, another offshore drilling related accident has occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. The incident, reported to the Coast Guard this morning at 10:00 am by a helicopter flying overhead, is west of the infamous Deepwater Horizon rig that exploded in April.
All 13 members of the rig’s crew went overboard but are alive and awaiting rescue. The Coast Guard is on its way to the site, which is about 80 miles south of the central Louisiana coastline.
Mariner Energy owns the platform, where the explosion occurred. The Vermilion Oil rig continues to burn, but thankfully, a Coast Guard officer has told CNN that the deepwater rig wasn’t actively producing oil at the time of the blast.
