Sonus Faber Elipsa SE: Sophisticated sound

By | October 17, 2012, 6:00 AM PDT

The Elipsa Special Edition floorstanding loudspeakers are the latest addition to Italian manufacturer Sonus Faber’s Cremona collection, and as such, they look like they were carved from the hull of an Amalfi Coast yacht.

The speakers use the same ring-radiator tweeter as the company’s Stradivari Homage flagship model, promising clear enough high notes to make you feel like you’ve raised John Coltrane from the dead. (Or landed a seat onstage watching soprano Joan Sutherland perform, if that’s more your speed.)

The speakers have an elliptical cabinet shape intended to create a wide, deep soundstage that can be shoe-horned into your acoustically-challenged living room. For a classy pair like this, however, you’ll probably have to renovate the whole house. (Just saying.)

The Sonus Faber Ellipsa SE speakers can be purchased through the company’s U.S. importer, Sumiko Audio. $22,900.

expectations
I had expected the price to be $25,000, therefore it is a steal. Where are they located so I can steal them?

Renovating the house?
At $23,000 EACH (not counting taxes, shipping, and hiring a couple of bronzed weightlifters to carry them in on their shoulders), it would cost less for me to just buy a new house!

Italian? I wonder if they will be in the shop as much as their cars usually are?
