3M Mobile Projector MP220: Portable presenter

By | November 21, 2012, 7:07 AM PST

Business travel is all about being lightweight and nimble. Those who are ruthless about downsizing for the road are usually richly rewarded, with fewer fees, shorter wait times and less sore joints.

Pico, or pocket, projectors are ideal for road (air? rail?) warriors for whom presentations are key. Whether you’re in sales or the C-suite, sometimes you need a killer visual to make your point land.

In a crowded field, we like 3M’s Mobile Projector MP220. The slim, battery-powered device connects to Apple iOS and Google Android devices to enlarge PowerPoint presentations and Netflix instant movies alike. You need only a blank wall — easily procured for those who shuttle between hotel rooms and meeting rooms.

The device can project an image up to 120 inches with 65 lumens of brightness, a feat that was not long ago impossible in a device of this size. With 1 gigabyte of storage, you can put your presentation directly on the device — no messing around with wires five minutes before showtime. And the entire package is small and light enough to slip into your carry-on without difficulty.

3M’s MP220 mobile projector is available online through CDW. $470.

Thanks to Amy Kraft for the report
Ah - good looking product for the business traveler. One feature: "With 1 gigabyte of storage, you can put your presentation directly on the device" sure will make life easier
in all presentations - not only for sales.

2 Questions?
What is the projection distance and battery life? Looking at the price Im guessing it probably has a longer throw, 5-8 ft. at least, and probably sits on the table, where you have to make sure you dont stand in the middle of your presentation. Will I need to change the battery after every presentation or does it plug in for longer presentations and to recharge?

These would be good things to know.

Two answers
Battery life is "up to two hours." If you've got a meeting running longer than that, it's not the projector with the problem.

Yes, it does sit on a table. Distance is unclear, but 3M gives it an 11-inch-to-75-inch diagonal picture.

yes, standard screw accepted
Q: Is there a small stand or tripod available for the 3M Mobile Projector?
A: Yes, there is a 3M desktop tripod available. The projector does have a standard 20-1/4 tripod mounting point in the event you want to mount the projector to a camera tripod.

projector
I think this is a great idea. add a communication device and it could become a telepresence device. picture the device over night by ups for a meeting 1/2 way around the world. no jet lag, no customs, no hotel.
