Plans revealed for stunning new transit hub in Spain

London-based firm, Foster + Partners has set out to build another ambitious transportation hub in the city of Ourense in Galicia, Spain. The new plans reveal a high-speed train station in the Spanish city that is an ambitious mix of transit station and new public park.

Dubbed the Ourense AVE Station, the new structure will be located over the existing tracks, and include a bus station and parking area below. With all the hubbub happening below the sruface, the above-ground look of the station is meant to be more transparent and serene.

The platforms will be covered by arcing roofs, whose underbelly will be reflective to bring more natural light to the people below. The canopies will be separated by glazed facades that will give rail-riders views of the mountains that surround the city.

The most interesting part of the design, however, is the introduction of the new park. Meant to open up the city by providing pedestrian access to the various districts that the station divides, the pedestrian walkways will also emulate the alignment of the tracks.

Foster + Partners will work with Cabanelas Castelo Architects and engineers at G.O.C in their newest attempt to redefine the role and reach of transportation in the city.
