Coca-Cola has collaborated with music technology brand EOps and British designer Michael Young to produce earphones made with recycled plastic bottles. The earphones, named EOps Noisezero Sports+, are rain-proof and sweat-proof, and, as the name suggests, are specially made for sports use.
The earphones are based on Young’s original EOps Noisezero 1+ earphones, which feature a signature flexible horn shape that slips into the ear canal, and when rotated 90 degrees, creates an acoustic seal.
Young’s previous Eco edition of the earphones used cornstarch bio-plastics for the ear-buds and the microphone housing. The Coca Cola version uses 20 percent recycled content in the form of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from plastic bottles.
The product collaboration is part of Coca Cola’s strategy to show commitment to sustainable product development as well as boost their brand with design. The world’s top selling beverage company recently announced the forming of a collaborative working group (with Ford, Heinz, Nike, and Procter & Gamble) that will focus on the development and use of 100% plant-based PET materials and fiber in their products.
