That's according to a ranking released this week of the most walkable cities in the U.S. by Walk Score, a website that rates the walkability of any address in the U.S. The walkability rating is based on how close an address is to amenities such as restaurants, grocery stores, schools, and more.

The tool has become a one popular for realtors looking to take advantage of the growing population that wants to live in vibrant communities where they can easily get to places by foot.

Here are the 10 most walkable cities of the largest 50 in the U.S.:

1. New York City
2. San Francisco
3. Boston
4. Chicago
5. Philadelphia
6. Seattle
7. Washington D.C.
8. Miami
9. Minneapolis
10. Oakland

Here are the 10 least walkable of the 50 largest U.S. cities:

41. Louisville
42. Memphis
43. Kansas City
44. El Paso
45. Indianapolis
46. Nashville
47. Fort Worth
48. Oklahoma City
49. Charlotte
50. Jacksonville

Is it any surprise that most walkable cities are also some of the most iconic and vibrant cities in the U.S.? I think not.
