Which city is best? Here at SmartPlanet, that question is never far from our minds. From The Economist to Frommer’s to the U.S. Census Bureau, everyone has a different answer — and a different set of criteria.

Fortunate for us, Businessweek took a number of these metrics — including education, cost of living, and crime rate — and blended them together to create a master list of the nation’s most habitable places.
