What are the top 20 most valuable brands in the world?

In terms of business value, where do household names including Apple, Disney and Amazon fit in?
Written by Charlie Osborne, Contributing Writer

Apple's CEO Tim Cook may be answering Congressional questions today over the company's financial practices, but it doesn't stop the company from remaining the most valuable brand in the world.

In an annual report, BrandZ and Millward Brown Optimor have compiled this year's list of the top 100 valuable firms in the world based on their global value -- not just the figures on the balance sheet, but also "consumer sentiment," according to Millward Brown VP Oscar Yuan. For this factor in ranking, Millward Brown polls over 200 million consumers from 43 countries.

Despite tax avoidance concerns and worker condition issues with part supplier and manufacturer Foxxconn, Yuan says that Apple is still "the gold standard" in the eyes of its customers.

Companies that did well this year are often linked to digital technology and services. Google runs a search engine used worldwide, IBM is dedicated to technological research and development, Visa has promoted online payment methods and Amazon is well known for online and mobile shopping.

In order, the most valuable brands in the world are:
1. Apple
2. Google
3. IBM
4. McDonalds
5. Coca Cola
6. AT&T
7. Microsoft
8. Marlboro
9. Visa
10. China Mobile
11. GE
12. Amazon
13. Wells Fargo
14. Amazon
15. UPS
16. ICBC
17. Vodafone
18. Walmart
19. SAP
20. Mastercard
