Twitter co-founder reveals recipe for success

But what does sugar have to do with it?
Written by Charlie Osborne, Contributing Writer

The co-founder of microblogging platform Twitter and mobile payments firm Square, Jack Dorsey, has revealed his personal recipe for being part of a successful company.

Rather than talk about Twitter's upcoming IPO at Y Combinator's Startup School event on Saturday in Cupertino, Calif., Dorsey read passages from his favorite books and waxed lyrical about the philosophical elements of being a successful entrepreneur.

Dorsey's daily routine includes a list of Dos and Don'ts to keep him on the straight and narrow, checking his phone continually, and creating notes for each person he meets for future use. According to TechCrunch, Dorsey's Do list is as follows:

  • Stay present
  • Be vulnerable
  • Drink only lemon water and red wine
  • Six sets of 20 squats and push-ups every day
  • Run for three miles
  • Meditate on this list
  • Stand up straight
  • Spend 10 minutes with a heavy bag
  • Say hello to everyone
  • Get seven hours of sleep

And the Don'ts:

  • Don't avoid eye contact
  • Don't be late
  • Don't set expectations that you can't meet
  • Don't eat sugar
  • Don't drink hard liquor or beer during the weekday

Beyond the list-making strategy, Dorsey also told the crowd that there would be failure in their attempts to become successful in the tech and business space, but this is something that can be learned from.

"You are the future," Dorsey said. "You are building things you want to see in the world."
