The top 10 U.S. cities with the happiest workers

Apparently, cities with lots of tech companies make for happy workers.

Glassdoor, a jobs and career community, recently used employee reviews to rank the best places to work. In the top 50 were Google, LinkedIn, Agilent Technologies, Apple, Facebook, Riverbed Technology, and Salesforce.com. Interestingly, these companies are based in two of the cities that made Glassdoor's new ranking of the cities with the happiest workers. Apparently San Francisco and San Jose are pretty good places to work, particularly when it comes to compensation and benefit packages. Here are the top 10 cities with the happiest workers, according to employee reviews:

1. San Jose, Calif.
Satisfaction rating: 3.4 out of 5 overall
Compensation and benefits rating: 3.4 out of 5
Highest-rated companies: Stanford University, Google and Intuit
Most in-demand jobs: software engineer, program manager, and sales associate

2. San Francisco, Calif.
Satisfaction rating: 3.4 out of 5 overall
Compensation and benefits rating: 3.3 out of 5
Highest-rated companies: Riverbed Technology, AppDynamics and Salesforce.com
Most in-demand jobs: software engineer, online sales representative, and sales associate

3. Seattle, Wash.
Satisfaction rating: 3.4 out of 5 overall
Compensation and benefits rating: 3.4 out of 5
Highest-rated companies: Zillow, Starbucks, and Nordstrom
Most in-demand jobs: software engineer, sales associate, and barista

4. Salt Lake City, Utah
Satisfaction rating: 3.3 out of 5 overall
Compensation and benefits rating: 3.2 out of 5
Highest-rated companies: Intermountain Healthcare, University of Utah, and Overstock.com
Most in-demand jobs: software engineer, sales associate, and customer service representative

5. Washington, D.C.
Satisfaction rating: 3.3 out of 5 overall
