1.) Cisco to buy cloud Wi-Fi firm Meraki for $1.2bn. Cisco is to pay $1.2 billion (£750 million) for Meraki, a firm which offers control of Wi-Fi equipment and other network kit over the cloud.
2.) Review: Best tools to set up secure Wi-Fi for BYOD. Deploying the enterprise mode of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2) with 802.1X authentication provides great Wi-Fi security, but complicates the client configuration and connection process.
3.) Super Wi-Fi likely to see success first in Asia. The region has most potential due to rich media and smart devices penetration, but many hurdles still need to be overcome before technology fulfills potential.
4.) Wi-Fi carries 78% of U.K. Android data. U.K. Android smartphone users access almost 80 per cent of their mobile data over wifi networks, according to research from Nielsen.
5.) Wireless meters tell snoopers when you are not home. Criminals no longer need to stake out a home or a business to monitor the inhabitants’ comings and goings. Now they can simply pick up wireless signals broadcast by the building’s utility meters.
