By | February 11, 2013, 12:50 AM PST

“The Morning Briefing” is SmartPlanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about LED lighting design and uses.

1.) New LED lighting causing complaints in San Ramon. San Ramon’s new LED streetlights are coming under fire for leaving some residents in the dark.

2.) Grand Central Terminal got an impromptu LED light show for its 100th birthday. Improv Everywhere put on a light show for Grand Central’s 100th birthday.

3.) Wireless LED lights that don’t shine like LED lights. Can Philips’ latest offering usher in both efficient lights and the future of the connected home?

4.) Analysis: Failing firms cloud China’s LED lighting vision. One in five Chinese LED lighting companies may fail this year as falling prices and oversupply batter an industry that Beijing bankrolled to try to build an energy-efficient future.

5.) Sainsbury’s slashes lighting costs with ‘world-first’ LED rollout. Sainsbury’s has given its green credentials another polish this week, with the announcement that its new store in Leek, Staffordshire will feature an LED lighting system that promises to slash energy use by almost 60 per cent.
