The Morning Briefing: Cybercrime, security

By | February 21, 2013, 12:56 AM PST

“The Morning Briefing” is SmartPlanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about cybercrime and security.

1.) China denies cyber attack allegations. A secretive branch of China’s military is probably one of the world’s “most prolific cyber espionage groups,” a U.S. cyber security firm has said.

2.) Apple hacked: Computers hit by cyber attack. The iPhone and iPad maker says a cyber-security breach affected a small number of employees’ Mac computers.

3.) David Cameron to strike cybercrime deal with India. David Cameron is trying to strike a cybersecurity partnership with India aimed at protecting the personal data of millions of British households stored in Indian call-centres and data centres.

4.) Cybercrime wave gathers force. Cybercrime is big business. It is costing consumers $110bn a year and affects almost 1.5m people a day, Symantec, the online security group, reported last year.

5.) How Anonymous accidentally helped expose two Chinese hackers. How did security firm Mandiant put names to two previously unknown Chinese hackers who, it says, steal American corporate secrets for the Chinese government? With a little inadvertent help from Anonymous.
