The Morning Briefing: Cyber security

By | September 6, 2012, 1:17 AM PDT

“The Morning Briefing” is SmartPlanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about cyber security.

1.) Clinton calls for US, China to work together on cybersecurity. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called for the United States, China and other countries to work together on addressing the rising threat of cyber attacks at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

2.) Obama vs. Romney on cybersecurity. In their respective platforms, the Republicans and Democrats each briefly touch on what they both describe as a paramount threat facing the U.S.: cybersecurity. In keeping with the partisan divides that prevented lawmakers from passing cybersecurity legislation this year, each side offers a different — but decidedly familiar — take on the issue.

3.) Cyber security, IM to top agenda of police chiefs’ meet. Cyber security and Pakistan-based terror groups, particularly the Indian Mujahideen (IM), would top the agenda of the three-day State police chiefs’ conference that begins here on Thursday.

4.) Chinese telecoms gear maker Huawei calls for cybersecurity cooperation, promises no spying. Chinese telecoms equipment maker Huawei Technologies Ltd. has issued a report on cybersecurity that includes a pledge never to cooperate with spying in a fresh effort to allay concerns in the United States and elsewhere that threaten to hamper its expansion.

5.) Canadians get smart on cybersecurity. Canadians are actually wiser than most of their foreign counterparts when it comes to cybersecurity, new research suggests.
