The Morning Briefing: Being smart about the grid

By | October 17, 2012, 1:03 AM PDT

“The Morning Briefing” is SmartPlanet’s daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we’re reading about smart grid technology.

1.) Getting smart about the grid. ALSTOM’s Dr Lawrence Jones recently visited Australia and New Zealand to provide local stakeholders with a global perspective on integrating clean energy in smart grids. He believes the next step in the process for greater integration is to focus on modernising electricity infrastructure in countries such as Australia and New Zealand.

2.) Itron tests smart-grid-to-home waters with C3, GreenCom. The smart meter kingpin partners with C3 on customer engagement and with German startup GreenCom on European home energy trials.

3.) ‘Smart grid’ concept slow to persuade the public. The “smart grid”: It’s billed as the Next Big Thing for the power system. Now, if only someone could explain what it is.

4.) Smart grid tech race intensifies. A year ahead of a global meeting of energy leaders in Daegu, South Korea, the country’s push ahead on smart grid technology development has been highlighted by a new report from the World Energy Council.

5.) Cuisia lauds GE’s ’smart grids’ investment in PH. American multinational General Electric will build “smart grids” in the Philippines that could lower power costs and make the country more attractive to foreign investors, Philippine Ambassador Jose. L. Cuisia Jr. said.
