Tesla Motors' strategy to focus its attention and sales efforts on Norway appear to be paying off.

Just two months ago, the first Model S was delivered to Norway. By the end of September, the luxury all-electric car became the top-selling car in the country, beating out the Volkswagen Golf and capturing 5.1 percent of the market share for the month.

Some drivers are so keen to own a Model S—and so unwilling to wait months for a new one—they're paying an additional $20,000 to buy the car from existing owners, reported Reuters.

Norway, which has the largest EV ownership per capital in the world, is at the center of Tesla's sales push in Europe. The company says it plans to expand rapidly in Europe with 15 new stores and service centers to open in the next several months.

In August, Tesla opened six "supercharger" stations, which are located within 200 miles of 90 percent of Norway's population. Tesla's 120 kilowatt superchargers provide half a charge in about 20 minutes, the company says. The chargers work by delivering direct current power to the battery using special cables that bypass onboard charging equipment.
