Starting soon, travel to Turkey with a Eurail Pass

By | October 27, 2012, 11:29 AM PDT

Travelers in Europe who are in possession of a Eurail Pass will soon be able to visit Istanbul’s Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia at no extra cost.

Starting Jan. 1, the Eurail Pass will expand its coverage to include travel to Turkey. As of this date, T.C.D.D., the Turkish state railway, will officially become a member of Eurail Global, the Netherlands-based company that manages the passes.

The move means that passengers with Eurail Global Passes, which allow train travel between 24 European countries, can go to Turkey through Bulgaria, the New York Times reports.

Westbahn, a high-speed rail service running between Salzburg and Vienna, will also join Eurorail Global next year, becoming the first private line in the group.
