Siemens Energy says that it has received orders worth €880m in the wind power industry since July.
Entering the South African wind power sector, the latest order Siemens has secured is for the Jeffrey’s Bay wind power plant, that has a capacity of 138 megawatts (MW). 60 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW, will be delivered as part of the deal. The South African government plans on constructing additional renewable energy projects, with an aim to generate 20,000MW of power by 2030.
In South Africa and Europe, the electronics and renewable energy firm has received a total of 16 orders from more than 270 onshore wind turbine since July 2012. According to Siemens, the total capacity of these projects will be able to supply 730,000 households.
The total volume for supply, installation and service is over 880 million euros.
“Electricity produced from wind power will make a significant contribution worldwide to ecofriendly power supply in the future,” states Felix Ferlemann, CEO of the Wind Power Division of Siemens Energy. “The orders from Europe and our market entry in South Africa clearly demonstrate that we are continuing along the right path, also with our onshore business.”
Siemens will supply, install and service turbines for three wind farms in the U.K., Denmark and Sweden, work with two projects in Turkey and Croatia, and one each in Macedonia, Poland and South Africa.
