Honda and Nissan have added 2.8 million vehicles to a recall from last year concerning faulty airbags.

The default has been found in passenger airbags. A defective part "could cause the airbag inflator to rupture and deploy the airbag abnormally in a crash."

The Japanese carmakers, among other firms such as Toyota, use a part in the affected vehicles supplied by Takata. The defective part has caused multiple automakers to bring their vehicles back in for repair.

The latest notice issued by Honda and Nissan includes 13 Honda models such as the Civic, CRV and Stream, as well as 16 Nissan cars, including the Terrano and Cube.

Honda is recalling over two million vehicles worldwide, and Nissan is bringing 755,000 cars back to the garage. In total, approximately 2.8 million cars are being recalled.

Both companies said there have been no reports of injury or accident due to the problem, but Toyota has received a notice of a seat cover burn due to the faulty part.

The Japanese firms are not the only automakers forced to issue recall notices. General Motors has issued no less than 29 recall notices this year in the United States due to a variety of issues, including front lap belt cable flaws, shift cable systems that have caused accidents, and airbag deployment issues.
