Here’s the smart road of the future

Quick, name the latest innovation in roads. The switch from gravel to asphalt? Roads might not seem like they inspire much innovation, but there are a lot of forthcoming advances in road technology.

In the near future we’re looking at roads that glow in the dark and de-ice themselves. In the long term we could see roads that charge electric cars and networked highways that connect with GPS units to monitor traffic.

A new infographic from Neo Mammalian Studios (developed for Car Loan 4U) shows nine road technologies in the development process that will one day (hopefully) make our roads smarter and safer. Check it out:
