Google unveils wearable computer, Google Glass

By | February 20, 2013, 10:56 AM PST

It’s been about a year since we first got word that Google was developing a wearable computing device, Google Glass. Now Google’s offering a glimpse of what they’ve been working on and how it could change how you interact with technology and the world. The results are pretty amazing.

We now know that you’ll interact with Google Glass by saying “Ok, Glass…” followed by a command. According to Google, the device can be used to take pictures, video, and show your friends exactly what you see through the glasses. It will obviously also take the place of a lot of functions that you otherwise need a handheld device for. For example, you can send a message by speaking it (similar to Apple’s Siri but without the phone), see directions without a GPS device, see answers to questions, and have your voice translated.

Google Glass is in the early testing stage, but you can still get your hands on a pair. First you’ll have to apply. The application? Via Google:

  • Your application must be 50 words or less
  • You must include #ifihadglass in your application
  • You can include up to 5 photos with your application
  • You can include a short video (15 secs max)
  • Be sure to follow us on Google+ (+ProjectGlass) or Twitter (@projectglass) so that we can contact you directly
  • If you’re chosen to be a “Glass Explorer” you’ll have to pre-order a pair of the glasses for $1500 plus tax and pick up the glasses in New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. All that to help Google fix its bugs. Google says: “We’re still in the early stages, and while we can’t promise everything will be perfect, we can promise it will be exciting.”

    Limited, very limited.
Works great for incoming info, but has extremely limited data assembly, manipulation, and creative uses. Apple zombie consumers will likely respond as usual.

It's not a device from Apple; it's from Google.
So, perhaps you meant Google zombies.

    Probably Both
Apple Zombies will claim these are entirely worthless (but the version Apple will probably put out in 10 years will be amazing). Google Zombies will ignore the limitations of this device and claim it the greatest invention ever.

    Implants
Meanwhile, Microsoft will come out with implantable devices that will obviate the need for glasses. Google will follow with contacts...

I need one but I am not in US
Just wish they can expand the plan to other countries, I will not complain about the bugs or ask for a refund and I will pay for the postage if it need to be call back for repair.
