Chinese hackers targeted New York Times for four months

By | January 30, 2013, 7:41 PM PST

The New York Times reported that for the last four months, the company’s computer system has been repeatedly attacked by hackers originating in China.

The attacks occurred during reporting for a Times investigation, published October 25, showing that the relatives of Chinese prime minister Wen Jiabao had accumulated several billion dollars in business transactions.

The Times stopped the attackers by tracking their work and then setting up systems to expel them and prevent them from breaking back in.

The methods used by the hackers were ones that have been associated with the Chinese military previously, according to the security experts hired by the Times; for instance, the source of the attacks was obfuscated, because the hackers first penetrated computers at United States universities and then routed their attacks through them.  The same university computers had previously been used by the Chinese military to attack U.S. military contractors.

Although the hackers stole the passwords of every Times employee, Jill Abramson, executive editor of The Times, said, “Computer security experts found no evidence that sensitive e-mails or files from the reporting of our articles about the Wen family were accessed, downloaded or copied.” The information does not appear to have been used to obtain information not pertaining to the investigation, and no customer data was stolen.

The Times says,

The attacks appear to be part of a broader computer espionage campaign against American news media companies that have reported on Chinese leaders and corporations.

Last year, Bloomberg News was also targeted by Chinese hackers. Just before, Bloomberg had published an article on the wealth of relatives of Xi Jinping, China’s then-vice president.

Not quite...
One of the traits of communism is that section which favors the "more equal" part of society. While most citizens of a communist society never get to rich or well-off status, the "more equal" never find a problem with enjoying wealth via the economy which is under their total control.

While communism is about "sharing" in the wealth, is more about sharing he misery, while the "more equal" don't have to worry about ever being in misery. Nobody in power in a communist country, ever complained about their own economic status.

Even in the U.S., which is rapidly turning towards socialism, the leaders who advocate for that socialism, are making sure that they are not part of the larger citizenry which has to share the wealth or misery. Thus, we end up with the Obamas, who are automatically wealthy via their positions, and Nancy Pelousy, who has wealth beyond the reach of the regular citizen, and you also have John Kerry, who was very wealthy before marrying into even more obscene wealth, and you have the Clintons, who were very wealthy before attaining the presidency and then got obscenely wealthy after going on the road to collect speaking fees at about $100k and $200k per speaking engagement, and then, the biggest hypocrite of all, Al Gore,, who sold out whatever principles he attributed to himself by selling his TV network to Al-Jazeera while already having been a multi-millionaire before that sale, and the same goes for hundreds of thousands more "leaders" who espouse liberalism and socialism, while being hypocritically taking advantage of the system and the people.

The people in a communist country, are easily duped, but, it's not about being duped, and it's more about being lied to and being taken advantage of.

Communism has never worked for the people, but it sure has worked for the "more equal".

Yeah... Thanks for playing. You are definitely not smarter than a 5th grader.

Apparently, you're defensing communism,
and by that, you are proclaiming yourself to be the enemy within America.

BTW, perhaps you too need to listen to FOX, because, I don't ever hear FOX talk about the things I posted above, and you think they do.

Knowledge is gained by diversifying one's sources, and you, apparently, have one source, that being the indoctrinating you get from the liberal press, which is nothing more than a sounding board for the democrats talking points.

Get out of that idiotic liberal bubble, and start using whatever you have left in your head.

NY Times
They have the time and ambition to investigate CHINESE business transactions, legal or not, yet nothing to investigate and truly retire all the allegations cast against Obama and actual miscreants of his regime! So strange! Obama's birth, background, religion and religious figures, pre-and post-presidential associates, scholastic information, meteoric political rise, etc, all are sacrosanct! Can anyone spell 'sacred cow'?
